​​​The Director of D2C Merchandising defines and oversees the strategy, vision and execution of seasonal line planning, assortment maximization and site merchandising to meet or exceed the financial goals of the business. This role leads ecommerce merchandising, site merchandising and D2C licensed merchandising teams. Expert in digital commerce and deeply engaged in the business to lead highly collaborative teams in delivering best-in-class omnichannel shopping experiences for our hardworking consumers. 

​Primary thought partner to global merchants, planning, allocation, visual, marketing and media. They will champion the role of leader through business and teamwork/development, cultivating an engaged and curious team. This role will have product-level P&L accountability, drive results and closely monitor the health of their categories ensuring assortments are commercially viable and drive profitable growth.​​ 

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • ​​Define seasonal merchandise assortment, investment and storytelling strategies to create compelling omni-channel experiences and maximize revenue and conversion 

  • ​Create and manage an annual operating budget that promotes growth and profitability and drives KPIs 

  • ​Inspire teams by fostering a culture of agility and continuous learning; mentor and develop team; lead by setting clear expectations, create accountability for results, and drive standardization and simplification of work where necessary 

  • ​Build ecommerce & Licensed Go-To-Market calendars and guide the cross functional team thru 

  • ​Lead a team in executing merchandising strategies for navigation, onsite search, assortment layout, site content and enhancements; ensuring an omnichannel approach 

  • ​Support digital marketing execution by implementing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) recommendations and assisting Direct Response, CRM and Affiliate teams with linking strategies 

  • ​Balance long term strategy growth and immediate business need based on sales trends, consumer insights, and KPIS to manage in-season risks, identify and maximize opportunities and influence the future state 

  • ​Manage partnerships with external digital partners and creative agencies to create and deliver compelling product, stories and experiences that support Direct to Consumer strategies 

  • ​Communicate business results and seasonal strategies to key cross functional partners and leadership across levels 

  • ​Manage partnership with licensed vendors, build long range plans, influence product assortments and special make-ups, balance open-to-buy and create marketing content 

  • ​Develop and foster key relationships with counterparts across the organization in Global Product, Marketing, Integrated Media, Creative, Digital Ops, Store Ops, User Experience, Planning, Analytics, MasterData, EDP, Visual, Customer Service, Consumer Insights and Sales to maximize efficiencies, execution and profitability 

  • ​Lead an environment that promotes open communication, creativity, and sharing ideas/best practices between associates and functions to accomplish sales, profit and service objectives

Required Education  

 

  • Bachelor's Degree Required in Merchandising or Related Field; or equivalent years of related experience 

 

Required Skills & Experience  

 

The ideal candidate thrives in an entrepreneurial and dynamic environment and is comfortable and effective leading through significant complexity 

  • 10 or more years of progressive business management with emphasis on consumer, product management, merchandise planning, storytelling and process management including 4 or more years of eCommerce experience.

  • Apparel industry preferred 

  • 5 or more years of people leadership experience 

  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, online merchandising tools 

  • Ability to think creatively, strategically and technically; balance working at both the tactical/operational and strategic level 

  • Strong quantitative/analytical skills and mindset with aptitude in retail math and forecasting methodology 

  • Strong understanding and passion for product, merchandising, store and website experiences 

  • Excellent leadership, facilitation and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across functional lines and at many levels 

  • Exceptional listener and communicator who effectively conveys verbal and written information  

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and negotiate 

  • Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize workload, delegate work and concurrently manage multiple projects 

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions  

 

  • Office environment; cubicle setting.  Extended periods of time sitting, standing, typing on a computer is required 

  • Light Lifting (10-15 lbs.) 

  • After Hours and Weekend Hours if necessary  

  • Travel may be required up to 50%
