Job Summary

The Design Artist is responsible for the creation of all graphics and textile print/pattern outside of Carhartt’s seasonal Go-to-Market calendar. Products will span all categories (Outerwear, 1st Layer, Tops, Bottoms, and Accessories) across both Men’s and Women’s. Emphasis in this role is creating and executing against accelerated timelines. These products are created to support specific consumer, channel, and account needs – providing market segmentation and differentiation opportunities for key accounts and D2C.

Representative Responsibilities

  • Creates and refines artwork specific to styling/fabrications in collaboration with Product Design, Sales and Merchandising. Ensure all options meet specific consumer, channel and/or account needs.
  • Responsible for supporting all off-timeline artwork needs from inspiration to creation of Product Development/Vendor handoff, approval of strike-off/handlooms and size and placements.
  • Communicate all changes/updates as needed to appropriate partners.
  • Coordinate/Participate in market trips, trade shows, and own share-out of market insights, as it relates to art.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the Exclusives Product team, as well as Sales and Account partners.
  • Build a culture that explores new ideas, different positions, and alternatives to achieve results, which in turn empowers the Design Resources department to develop and share new methodologies as needed to improve processes and results.
  • Work with a consumer focus and balance each exclusive request with the integrity and authenticity of our brand DNA, keeping our mission to serve and protect all hardworking people top of mind.
  • Keep up to date on training needs and new technologies, including in-house printers and software.
  • Continually expand knowledge in innovations in textile and print industry and leverage findings to develop new concepts each season.

 

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Apparel/Textile Design, or related discipline; or equivalent years of related experience in lieu of degree.

 

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience work experience in graphics/print pattern development
  • Ability to lead projects
  • Knowledge of various styles of illustrations, manipulating and working with typography.
  • Experience with print, applique & embroidery, and textile design, preferred.
  • Advanced computer knowledge in Adobe Creative Suite CS5.
  • Experience with PLM system preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop strong business relationships, and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with all levels, including management and external partners/vendors. Strong presentation skills with the ability to present messages clearly and concisely.
  • Outstanding organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Embraces uncertainty and change; ability to pivot when needed. Ability to make decisions quickly when facing obstacles, an openness to change, embraces seeking unconventional solutions for roadblocks.
  • Apparel and construction knowledge, preferred.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Open office setting. Extended periods of time sitting, standing, typing on a computer is required. 
  • Light lifting may be required 10 LBS
  • Willing to work weekends if necessary. 
  • National and International travel required (up to 20%). 
  • This position has a Hybrid location: Associate will work on-site regularly as needed for work activities.
