Summary
The Carhartt Workshop, our community space located above our flagship store in Midtown Detroit, is intended to be a resource for the local community and a space for our consumers to learn more about our brand. The Carhartt Workshop Tool Expert is responsible for the care and maintenance of the tools within the Tool Bench, which is located within the Carhartt Workshop, as well as handling the day-to-day transactions with customers using our inventory and check-out software. This position will help facilitate and instruct workshops and classes, as well as provide excellent customer service by sharing their expertise with consumers looking to utilize the tool share service. The Carhartt Workshop Tool Expert is also responsible for providing safe, timely and cost-effective repairs to the Workshop facility and on-site equipment. Successful execution of this role results in efficient operations, minimal interruptions and smooth operation of all facility-related equipment. This role will also support the operational standards of the space and will assist with other tasks including maintenance and upkeep around the Carhartt Workshop and the Tool Bench.

Responsibilities
- Enthusiastically promote the brand by being an ambassador for Carhartt and the Workshop while influencing others to do the same.
- Support execution of the strategy that brings to life the ultimate Carhartt brand experience through exceptional customer service by delivering experiences that are engaging, personalized and authentic to the Carhartt brand.
- Maintain the computer database that tracks tool use and member information.
- Responsible for building tool orders, tool check in and out transactions and for providing information to users on responsible and safe tool usage.
- Assist with the facilitation and instruction of workshops and classes.
- Perform maintenance of tools as they are circulated to ensure good condition and to extend the lifespan of the inventory. This includes consistent cleaning, repair, and organization of the tools according to equipment service manuals.
- Answer or appropriately route phone calls, mail, and e-mail correspondence from the public on questions pertaining to the Tool Bench and/or general tool knowledge. Be able to provide and explain “how-to” instructional materials.
- Advocacy for the timely return of all borrowed tools, to guarantee the long-term sustainability of available inventory.
- General maintenance of the Workshop space and work that may need to be done to adhere to standards.
- Maintain a safe work environment by ensuring company and OSHA requirements are met – follow and be an advocate for all safety regulations.
- Provide support and coverage to the Carhartt Workshop’s community meeting rooms as necessary.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Required Skills and Experience
- 3 or more years of relevant work experience supporting general purpose facilities and maintenance functions
- Passion for being a resource for Detroit. Must have extensive knowledge of the city and surrounding communities while having the interest and ability to seek out community happenings in the evolving city of Detroit.
- Basic electrical, mechanical and plumbing skills required
- Broad knowledge of and ability to safely operate common hand and power tools; ability to assess tool condition and perform basic tool maintenance tasks
- Ability to explain tool usage and safety in layman’s terms; strong customer service attitude is essential
- Computer skills - Microsoft Office
- Good organization, prioritizing and follow-up habits
